The Pioneer shot to fame in the swinging sixties when a new hall was constructed with money raised by the Charity that went on to witness many of the up and coming bands of that era. The world renowned Zombies of “She’s Not There” fame played their first gigs there and some members of the band still live locally and maintain their involvement as Friends of Pioneer. Latterly, we have scored another hit, with award winning Enter Shikari becoming another home grown product that has gone on to tour the world and achieve international acclaim as one of the most innovative bands currently on the circuit. But that is a key part of what Pioneer is all about – it provides a platform for young talent to play in front of a live audience, made all the better experience by the investment of some £80,000 last year in a brand new state of the art PA system and digital lighting rig, which is quite possibly the best anywhere in the county.
